Number Place Strategy Guide
Block Unique
When a certain number can only be entered into one square in a given 3 x 3 block, the number must go into that square.
Example 1
Pay attention to the center 3 x 3 block. Since the number 1 can only be entered into the blue square, you can safely enter 1 into this square.
To use this strategy, look at the other 3 x 3 blocks horizontally and vertically attached to the block on which you are focusing. If you see the same number in all four of these blocks, there must be exactly one square in the focal block in which you can enter that number.
This is the easiest of the beginner strategies.
Example 2
Though the number 4 only appears twice, there is only one place where it will fit in the middle left block due to the influence of other numbers in the block. You may therefore enter 4 in the blue square.
If enough numbers are filled into a block, you may find that even one square may cause a block unique. Normally you can find block uniques when 2-4 of the same number appear on the game board.
View the entire game board looking for a number that appears many times. If you find such a number, try looking for block uniques.
